POD (Print on Demand)

The national churches in sub-Saharan Africa with whom we partner are growing exponentially. Print-On-Demand (POD) systems will be an important element in our strategic plan to enhance evangelistic, discipleship, and training efforts. Tim is leading the implementation of these systems across the continent.

POD systems are “bookshops in a box” that inexpensively produce quality, perfect-bound books in short runs. Traditional presses and binders are expensive to purchase and complicated to operate, making them ineffective for printing small quantities. With a POD system, however, a school only orders as many textbooks as are needed for a certain class. This ensures that each new class will receive the latest textbook and eliminates the need to store large inventories.

The POD system is ruggedly designed with the African environment in mind. An operator can quickly become proficient, and technical support is easily available through Skype.

With POD systems installed, Bible schools across Africa can print quality, up-to-date textbooks themselves and for a very low price. This includes areas of Africa where textbooks have been in short supply due to geographical or political reasons. Each POD system costs approximately $30,000 to assemble. The cost to ship and launch a new POD varies depending on the location. Tim oversees the setup and training of these new systems.

There are 12 key locations across the continent where we will place POD systems. The key locations are:

Luanda, Angola
Gaborone, Botswana
Yaoundé, Cameroon
Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Nairobi, Kenya
Monrovia, Liberia
Lilongwe, Malawi
Maputo, Mozambique
Roodepoort, South Africa
Lomé, Togo
Harare, Zimbabwe
